5 Ways To Make Your Buns Look Hot!

5 Ways To Make Your Buns Look Hot!

We know what you’re thinking… you were expecting squats right? Well, we have something even better, a blog all about the buns you have on display for everyone. Yep, the ones on your head!

Last week was all about the braid, and our love of the classics continues this week with one of the most popular hair trends, the bun! Just like the braid, the bun is an eternal classic which has evolved over the years. Its versatility is endless and is another bad hair day saviour (always good to have a few of these up your sleeve).

These are our 5 go-to styles that take us from drab to chic instantly!

THE SLICKED BUN

A slicked bun is neat and extra fierce, putting your best face forward… quite literally. The sleek bun clears all the hair from your face and depending on how tight you gather those locks it can even provide the illusion of a face lift (no surgery required!).

Known also as the ballerina bun, this style should be secure, tidy and tight; imagine prancing like a ballerina in swan lake with no fear of flyaways or that bun falling out of place! This look involves bringing all your hair to the back of the head, twisting and wrapping the hair continuously around to create a neat circle, then securing with an elastic band and/or bobby pins. Simple!

The look is sleek, sexy and sophisticated, perfect for formal occasions, a night out or when you simply just need your hair out of your face! You can also opt for a top slick bun, formed in the same way, but instead of taking your hair back, simply take it up!

For the perfect slick bun arm yourself with sleek pomade for extra staying power to create real buns of steel!

THE LOOP BUN

The loop bun is one of the easiest buns out there, but don’t let its simplicity fool you - it can be transformed for front row status just as effortlessly as it’s created!

The loop bun is a half pulled through ponytail on its last pass through the elastic band, it’s that simple! Choose the height on your head and loop away!

It’s a timeless look that can be worn slicked back, messy, or accessorised for ultimate style status. Try adding a silk scarf, some jeweled pins, or a scrunchie to keep on trend without having to spend hours in front of the mirror!

For an enviable loop bun use riot oil prior to styling for ultimate shine and manageability whilst banishing any frizz.

THE TOP KNOT

The top knots rise (pun not intended) to popularity was a hallelujah moment for a lot of us. We can now justify spending just a few minutes on our hair, on a style that was previously strictly contained to the walls of our home or the group class at the gym and come out into the world looking and feeling stylish!

Top knot methods do vary but this is where you can have fun and mix up your look! Using the method of the ballerina or loop bun you can create the classic top knot by securing all your locks to the top of your head.

For a variation try a half-up, half-down style with the same bun methods to mix it up! The half-up, half-down is also a perfect style for when you want to wear your hair down but you’re a few days passed your hair wash day.

You can also get super creative with the top knot by incorporating braids; a power look for your next night out with the ladies, and a go-to for festivals!

THE MESSY BUN

Having a bad hair day but still want to look cute? A messy bun is perfect as it gives structure whilst still looking casual. The messy bun is a laid back look which involves loose strands.. everywhere! The messy bun can be tied low or high, with a somewhat controlled mess that is made to look effortlessly put together!

To create your messy bun, start with the standard bun method and then proceed to texturise by pulling out strands here and there, giving it some rough lovin’ to ease it out of its formal structure.

For the perfect texture and volume for this look start by adding volumising foam to your locks after washing, and once dry adding gunpowder to your roots and scrunching away!

SPACE BUNS

*URGENT DISCLAIMER* for all the Star Wars fans unfortunately these are not the iconic Princess Leia buns… the inspiration is there but these are a modern twist on this sci-fi classic.

Space buns are a creative alternative to the classic bun, and we’re absolutely obsessed! Space buns consist of two separate buns on the top of the head, which can be created by either the ballerina or loop bun methods. So simple and easy!

Like so many in the bun family these too can be changed up to exude character and style by adding braids and accessories or playing between sleek and messy styles. With two of these beauties on the top of your crown, you’ll definitely have everyone saying, nice buns!
